STEVENS POINT - When Trevor Anderson wrapped up a stellar prep basketball career at Stevens Point Area Senior High, his decision about where he would continue his career came down to the University of Wisconsin and UW-Green Bay.

Anderson, who finished his SPASH career as the school's all-time leading scorer and winner of back-to-back Division 1 state championships, ultimately chose a full scholarship from the Phoenix over a preferred walk-on offer from Wisconsin.

His dream of playing for the Badgers never died, however.

On Wednesday, Anderson announced on Twitter and confirmed to USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin that he is transferring to the Badgers as a preferred walk-on, with the possibility of earning a scholarship down the road.

SPASH graduate Trevor Anderson announced on Twitter on Wednesday he is transferring to the University of Wisconsin to play basketball.

"I just felt like I needed to make the move I guess," said Anderson in a telephone interview with USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin. "(Playing for) Wisconsin really has been a dream of mine."

Due to NCAA transfer rules, Anderson will have to sit out next season with the Badgers. He will have three years of eligibility remaining starting with the 2018-19 season.

Anderson just completed his freshman season at UW-Green Bay,where he averaged 9.8 points. He started 20 games, and ranked third on the Phoenix in assists with 53, while grabbing 2.9 rebounds a game. He missed the final 12 games with a hairline fracture in his back.

"I just want to get to work," Anderson said. "I think people who know me know I have the mentality that I have to earn everything I get. I'm going to work my tail off and see what happens."
