Family Center collecting used cell phones

For USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin

WISCONSIN RAPIDS - Residents with old cell phones don’t need to have those electronics cluttering up drawers any longer.

The Family Center will collect old cell phones – including outdated and broken models – as part of an ongoing fundraising for shelter for victims of domestic violence and/or sexual violence.

The program, facilitated through SmartphoneRecycling.com, not only will benefit The Family Center in terms of funds, but also will benefit the environment by keeping old phones out of landfills. According to the company website, “no products of any kind processed through our recycling facility will be sent to solid waste landfills.”

Phones can be dropped off at The Family Center during regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additionally, phones can be dropped off at the donation center between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

People with iPhones should turn off “Find My iPhone” before donating their phone. Simply go to Settings>iCloud, and turn off “Find My iPhone.” If this feature is not turned off, the phone will have a limited value through the program.

Donations to The Family Center are tax deductible.

Call The Family Center at 715-421-1559 with any questions or for more information.
